World Book day 2017

So today Thursday 2nd March is World Book Day! And it’s their 20th year. A day were many schools and nurseries dress up as their favourite character from their favourite book. Thousands of bookshops also take part were you take your book token and swap it for 1 of the 10 World Book Day books or you can use your book token to get £1 off any full price book instead.

When I was Young
I was seven years old when World Book Day first started and I don’t really remember much about it. My most memorable book from World Book day was when I was nine years old. The book I swapped my token for was The Children’s Book of Books 1999. I must have read it a hundred times. I remember it had snippets of stories and poems.

Our First Experience
When my daughter was 10 months old we made our weekly trip to our local children’s library for Rhyme Time. A half hour slot where a staff member would host nursery rhymes and songs for babies and children. My daughter loves it, and for me I learnt new songs and a reminder of popular ones from my childhood.
So on this particular visit we started with staff bringing out a box; handing out book start teddy bears and picture books for all the little ones and their book token was given to the adults.

We Missed It
Last year I was so caught up in my latest exam that we missed taking part at her nursery. And our local children’s library has been turned into a mini adult library while restoration work is carried out.
We miss our Rhyme Time.
Today
My daughter has gone to nursery as a cat from Room In the Broom by Julia Donaldson.
Story Time
Our bedtime story is one of the most important part of our routine. Not only has it helped developed her speech but also her imagination play too.

  1. Five minutes peace is SUCH a good book, I swear it was written about my life? I really wished we had gone to a baby group like you, it's something I'll always regret now.
